4 Questions to Test Your Spiritual Health

Examine Yourself

There is a difference between being religious and having a relationship with God.

Which one are you?

Religious and having a form of spirituality or do you have a personal relationship with God Almighty?

A self-examination of our spiritual health is worth doing and is required for believers.

Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith. (2 Corinthians 13:5)

Holier Than Thou

It may seem that I am writing as someone that is holier than thou, but my friend that is far from the truth.

I am a single woman walking this walk, just like you. While writing these questions I was convicted big time on things that I need to change. Some of this ruffled my feathers, so if you too get ruffled, remember it’s the Holy Spirit nudging you!

Will you be open to listening to God when He speaks to you?

It takes a firm foundation first then it takes time and effort to develop our spiritual muscle and our rock-solid faith in Jesus Christ. This does not happen overnight, nor does it happen without effort on our part.

Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:10-11)

Regular Self Checks

Writing these posts is a reminder to me that I must take all my thoughts captive, that I need to be in the Word daily, and that no matter how hard it gets I need to stand firm.

We are all busy and life can be crazy, however, one of the things we can do to is a self-check for our spiritual health.

In business, there are weekly, monthly, or quarterly checks to make sure that the business is on track to reach the specified goals.

On a personal basis, having a scheduled self-examination is a good way to make sure we are not wavering to the right or left.

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. (Proverbs 4:26-27)

Don’t be in the 30% Club

There are over two billion Christians and only thirty percent will ever read the entire bible. Only two percent only read their bible on Sundays only. Therefore, most believers will fail this self-examination test.

Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

  1. Do you read your Bible daily?

Reading the Word is what I like to call my Holy Appointment (which also includes prayer). Yes, life is crazy and some days we can miss a day or two. However, do you have a scheduled time that you read and study God’s Word?

Reading the Word is how we learn about God, hear from God, and how we are guided through the Holy Spirit. If we fail to discipline ourselves to be in the Word, we will not have discernment on what direction to go or how to make decisions.

Reading the Word gives us the power to live our lives in 2023. The word of God will never fail or misguide us, it will take us from where we are now to where God wants us to be.

Reading the Word gives us supernatural strength to live in victory over sin and temptation. It is impossible to be a faithful follower of the Lord and live without sin if we are not in the Word.

Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” (Luke 11:28)

Do You Pray Every Day?

Prayer is communication with God.

Prayer is how God provides supernatural solutions to our natural situations.

Prayer gives power over temptation and sin.

Prayer will help us to stay in the center of God’s will. We are created to be productive.

Prayer helps us to not be overconfident in our own abilities to make decisions without God’s guidance.

Let me give you an example of a friend of mine that was offered a position that was double the current salary, this would have set him up for life, and given him a way to provide an inheritance for his family. From the outside and with a carnal mind this was a no-brainer, but when he sought the Lord in prayer, he had a check in his spirit about taking the position. He declined the offer. Within less than a year later that company went under, and he would have lost everything.

The best life decisions are made in prayer and fasting. (More on fasting in a future post). Especially decisions with consequences.

Prayer is not a means of getting God to submit to our will, but prayer is a means of submitting our will to God’s will on this earth. God’s wisdom is far greater than our wisdom.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5-6)

  • Do You Attend a Bible Believing Church?

A church is not about the music.

A church a not about entertainment.

A church is not about the pastor.

A church is not about the programs.

People have lost the sacred value of the Church here on earth.

We go to church because it represents the house of God and represents to God that we honor Him and obey His word.

We need to be faithfully found in a bible believing church every Sunday because the Bible teaches us to do so.

If we are not in church, we are in direct disobedience to God. The church is a sacred and holy institution.

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near. (Hebrews 10:23-25)

  • Do You Pray for Your Unsaved Family Members Faithfully?

We should have a passion to see everyone that is saved.

Is our entire life about our hobbies, toys, travel, dancing, and obtaining money?

We do not want to be like the man in Luke 16 that went to hell and was able to speak from hell. He begged someone to go and tell his family that hell was real.

Have we lived only for ourselves, instead of others?

There is a greater concern for unsaved and lost people in hell than for many churches or those who claim to be followers of Christ.

All un-prayed prayers are unanswered.

The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent. (2 Peter 3:9)

Understandably self-evaluation is not always fun, but it’s vital to our spiritual growth and health.
