Get Into The Word

If we know the Word, we will know who God is.

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God and the Word was God. (John 1:1)

One of the most important things we can do each day as a believer is to take time to read God’s Word. This is how we develop our relationship with God and know how He thinks. We want to know how God thinks so that we know how to think, act, and respond to all circumstances in our lives.

Unfortunately, I’m afraid to say most “believers”, don’t know what the bible says. Therefore, many make decisions based out of fear and peer pressure, instead of standing on what God says.

It’s God’s Word that will give us wisdom and direction in this out-of-control world. We have to know what the bible says so that we KNOW without a doubt how to stand.

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

God’s Word is so powerful; as believers, we should want to be reading it every single day. Personally, to me, it’s like leaving your home naked, if you get up and go about your day without getting into the Word first!! (yes, let that soak in for a minute). We are called to be different from those in the world and the ONLY way that we can do this is by being in the Word. What really is more important in this life than nurturing our relationship with God?

Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. (Colossians 3:1-2)

Be a student of the Word and physically schedule time to be with the Lord. Life gets crazy and time slips by, so we need to intentionally use the time-blocking method and schedule time to be in the Word. In my calendar, I have time blocked scheduled from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. as my Holy Appointment. This is time that is a sacred time that I guard. I do not check emails, check text messages, get onto social media, or allow anyone or anything to distract me. What I do during this time may vary, I may hike and pray, journal, write a blog post, or meditate on certain scriptures. Either way, this is time that I have purposefully set aside to focus and be with Jesus. Now do I do this perfectly, no, but I recognize when I have not been in the Word and I do feel naked. Most importantly, when we are not in the Word it gives the enemy a crack to slip in… (more on this in future posts).

The only way to get the Word into our souls and where it transforms our minds is to meditate on what we are reading. Meditating on God’s Word means that we think and reflect on every word spoken. As we think about it throughout the day, we can learn how we can apply it to our circumstances. Meditating is savoring each word that God speaks and allowing it to saturate our minds, soul, and body.

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. (Joshua 1:8)

This is going to be a short and sweet post to encourage you to GET INTO THE WORD DAILY. I could go on and on why we need to be in the Word, but let me end with Hebrews 4:9-13, because nothing I can say will be more impactful than what God’s Word says…

So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God.

For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.

So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
