When Biscuits Fly

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. [John 16:33]

QUOTE: Flying biscuits are temporary tests of affliction to show how firm we will stand (Cathy Fraser).

NOTE: even though this is a chapter from my book more details are shared on the podcast, as this post is only an outline.

The entire concept of this book is based on three core principles to inspire us to understand that no matter what biscuits are flying (1) we can believe WE ARE WHO GOD SAYS WE ARE (2) OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS BECOMES STRONGER (3) and WE STAND FIRM ON THE WORD.

So what are flying biscuits? Well, it can be as simple as being stuck in traffic or the frustration of standing in line at a grocery store, getting a flat tire, or things breaking in our home, to a loss of a job, shattered dreams, loss of a pet, losing a business, a worldwide pandemic, to your loss of loved ones. Biscuits flying, discomfort, pain, grief, and suffering can all be wrapped up into one. You get where I’m coming from, it’s everyday life when things are outside of our plans, upside down, and there is some level of pain and suffering. Same as stuff hitting the fan, but I did not think that would be an appropriate choice of words!!!

The year 2020 was flying biscuits to the max [this was when this book was written]. Of course, the COVID pandemic has affected every single person in the world on some level. Loss of income, loss of loved ones, isolation, loneliness, fear, loss of jobs and long-time careers, loss of homes etc. etc. etc. The loss and pain from this darn virus is absolutely incomprehensible. Along with other consequences that we aren’t even aware of yet. Just devastating…

In Colorado and other states, there were also raging wildfires causing even more loss and devastation. Many people have lost their homes, pets, and potentially everything they have, and some have even lost friends and family. Again devastating, catastrophic events that change the entire course of someone’s life.

There is political unrest, deception, lies, and a movement toward communism that should be terrifying to every single person who lives in America. There are riots, killings of police officers, fighting and all sorts of harm being done to other human beings for what they stand for or believe.

My friends, these are flying biscuits, loss, grief, pain and suffering. There will be times when we believe we will not get through something because it’s so heart-wrenching and beyond the pain we have ever experienced. There will be times when we do not understand and will question God and ask why the heck is this happening. There are events in our lives that will shake every foundation and all the beliefs we have stood on for years. Life is not easy, and it was never once promised (by God) that it would be.

Wait my friend please don’t go away or throw this book, because there is actually good news through all this chaos. As believers, we know how everything ends in the end.

There Are Four Promises from God Wrapped in HOPE That We Can Hold On To While Here On Earth.

HAVEN OF SAFETY: We are so blessed to have Jesus as our place of refuge. He is our strength and our stronghold. He is that place that has been fortified to protect us against an attack. He IS with us during pain, loss, suffering, and the flying biscuit seasons. [Nahum1:7, Psalm 9:9]

OPULENT LOVE: The love of God for us is so extravagant, that it’s almost beyond our pea-sized brains to comprehend how much God really loves us. A very high price was paid because of the depth, height, width, and length of the love of God for us. There is one Scripture that every single person knows, that sometimes is overlooked, yet sums up that love. [John 3:16].

PEACE: Even though we will have trouble while here on earth, we are promised peace no matter what biscuits are flying. With the Lord, there is a peace that doesn’t make any sense and is beyond our understanding. It is yet another precious gift that we have been given.  [John 16:33, John 14:27]

ETERNAL LIFE: we have been promised a personal relationship with Jesus, which is eternal life. We also have been promised a pain-free life with everlasting peace. Jesus left this earth to prepare that home for us. He will be back at some point to take us there because of the eternal life and relationship that we have with God almighty. [Isaiah 26:4, Revelation 21:4]

This book is not about advocating positive thinking when all hell is breaking loose because that concept simply does not work during those times. The concepts in this book are to be a reminder of what the Word of God says and the promises that we have been given when everything seems so out of control. Remember to think when biscuits are flying because our thinking will determine how we will come through whatever we are going through. It’s learning to have a foundation of who God says we are and what His promises are so that whatever biscuits are flying, we can continue to stand…
