Operating in God’s Will

The master said, Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together! [Matthew 25:23]

Today I want to put you at ease by letting you know that you cannot miss the will of God and like always we will dig into some scriptures that will confirm this and show you what the will of God IS for your life.

There is an objective and subjective will of God which will help simplify this sometimes over-complicated, mysterious topic.

The objective will of God is based on what the Word of God says. It is not based on feelings or emotions but represents the truth.

The subjective will of God is based on feelings, emotions, opinions, and/or perspectives.

Having these two concepts makes things simple if it’s not in the Word it’s not God’s will. Also, I’m going to be bold and say IF you are in the Word and choosing to be a living sacrifice you will NOT miss the will of God or the purpose for your life.

An example was given on the podcast about the objective and subjective will of God.

SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATIONS FOR KNOWING THE WILL OF GOD

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

  • He has not hidden it from us, but it’s for us.
  • God has a purpose and plan for each of us.
  • It can only be discovered as we cultivate our relationship with Him.

If we want to operate in God’s best, each of us must accept the responsibility to discover and walk in God’s will for our lives.

  • We do this by living from our spirit.
  • Being Spirit-ruled and Spirit-led.
  • It’s a matter of surrender.
  • We don’t let our soul rule vs our Spirit.

Romans 12:1-2 And so, dear [brothers and] sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

  • Doing these things will screen out the weird and the subjective things.

Hebrews 4:12-13 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

Proverbs 3:5–6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding (our pea brain). Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

  • Finding the will of God involves trusting God with all of your heart and leaning not to your own understanding (involves your heart more than your head).
  • Use your mind but don’t rely on it.
  • There is a lot of confusion in the body of Christ about the will of God.
  • People who are in fear that they are going to “miss” the will of God don’t really understand how that fear is affecting them.
  • Living in fear that you will miss it is what will cause you to make bad decisions and really “miss” the will of God for your life.
  • Truth: You can’t “miss” the will of God if you don’t want to.
  • The will of God is not as static, and God is not as rigid about His will as we have thought.
  • Our phone is NOT the holy spirit – He will recalibrate us to get back on course
  • Chill out I will not miss the will of God 😊

Hebrews 10:9 Then he said, Look, I have come to do your will. He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect.

  • He had to know the will of God before He could do the will of God.
  • If it is possible for Jesus to discover the will of God, it is possible for us
  • He made the way and gave us the same Spirit that revealed the will of God to Him.

Colossians 4:12 Epaphras, a member of your own fellowship and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends you his greetings. He always prays earnestly for you, asking God to make you strong and perfect, fully confident that you are following the whole will of God.

  • Laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.
  • It is the will of God that you stand perfect and complete in all of the will of God for your life—God’s best!
  • You have to know the Word to stand completely in it.
  • IT’S POSSIBLE FOR YOU TO KNOW THE WILL OF GOD

Hebrews 10:36 Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.

  • Doing the will of God is key to receiving the promises of God to us—again: God’s best.
  • God has prepared things for me on the path of His clear direction and instruction from His Word and by His Spirit for my life.
  • As I walk on that path, I will receive the provision He has prepared for me and His promises to me.
  • Go where God leads me and the provision will be there!

Colossians 1:9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.

  • It is possible to be filled with the knowledge of His will in both practical application and spiritual understanding and not be confused about it.
  • There are so many subjective things that seem out of character with God and just plain common sense that people say are the “will of God” that are obviously not the will of God.
  • These kinds of things that “God told them” to do give God a bad rap and make Him seem schizoid (fickle or indecisive).
  • Then we have to help pick up the pieces in their broken lives and broken relationships later—this is not God’s best.
