Peace Through Flying Biscuits

Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. [Philippians 4:7]

QUOTE: Never be in a hurry; do everything quietly and in a calm spirit. Do not lose your inner peace for anything whatsoever, even if your whole world seems upset (Saint Francis de Sales).

Ps. Please note this is only an outline, more shared on the podcast.

I remember sitting alongside a stream next to a beautiful log cabin in Buena Vista, Colorado that the Lord provided for me to live in. I was looking at those awesome mountains that I love and was so thankful for this provision. I had tears streaming down my face with gratitude and awe. I was so grateful because this home came to me when I was trying to decide if I should go to a homeless shelter or what I should do next. So, when the opportunity to live in this beautiful log home came, I couldn’t do anything but fall on my knees beside the creek and thank God for this provision.

In my heart I was grateful; however, I still had this overwhelming sense of fear and uncertainty that kept me restless and awake night after night. I knew that God promised us peace, but I had never experienced God’s peace. I did not want to continue to live with fear, anxiety, turmoil, and the intense pain of loss and mourning. I was crying out to God and saying, Lord, I want the peace YOU have promised; where is this peace Lord, and how do I get it? I was crying so hard that day with so many emotions that I exhausted myself to the point I fell asleep along the creek bank for almost the entire day.

When I woke up, I became obsessed with figuring out how to obtain this peace. Over time I did learn how to have amazing peace and there are six action steps that I would like to share with you.

SIX STELLAR ACTIONS TO OBTAIN PEACE

1.ASK FOR PEACE: I went back to the big house and sat on the deck for a moment and realized I had never asked for peace as this Scripture indicates. I was so caught up in surviving and trying to figure things out that I had not taken a moment to simply ask the Lord to give me peace. When those darn biscuits are flying, remember to stop and ask the Lord to give you peace.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you [Matthew 7:7]

2. LET GOD BE GOD: I also realized I was trying to figure things out and get back on my feet in my own strength (like I always had done in the past) instead of letting God provide for me. I don’t know about you, but as a single woman, I’m used to taking care of myself and doing whatever it takes to make things happen. The concept of allowing someone else to provide for me was something that I couldn’t wrap my head around. However, the home I was sitting in was a huge indication that God was already taking care of me and the entire situation was in His hands.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding [Proverbs 3:5].

3. LEARN TO BE HUMBLE: First may I remind you that humble does not mean you are a carpet that can be walked on, but it actually is a place of power. It is showing a modest estimate of our own importance; it’s not being arrogant or being a know it all. It’s being courteous and respectful. To be humbled is to destroy or eliminate the self-independence, power, and self-will.

Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom [Proverbs 11:2]

4. BE WILLING TO GROW: Whenever we ask God for something, know there is always something we need to do on our end. OR more importantly, we need to learn how to take hold of what has already been given to us and use our authority and belief to obtain it. We may have to make changes, get out of our comfort zone, do things we don’t want to do, or learn to trust his leading and direction. As we spend more time in the Word, we learn to recognize God’s infinite knowledge, wisdom, and love.

Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. [Ephesians 3:17b-19).

5. BELIEVE YOU ARE WHO GOD SAYS YOU ARE: Peace is proportionally given based on our actions, thoughts, and attitudes. This goes back to everything we’ve been talking about in this book. When we want to have peace, we need to think about what we are thinking about, speak the Scriptures, and believe with our hearts what the Word says. Know that we are who God says we are.

Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. [Romans 14:19 NKJV]’

6. LET GOD GUIDE: The biggest lesson I learned to have peace, is to allow God to direct my steps. This was another hard one for me because God gave me the mind of an entrepreneur, with creativity, ideas, ambition, determination, and the ability to just get stuff done. So, I was confused and devastated when all the biscuits hit the fan because I thought I was doing what God called me to do.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. [Proverbs 3:5-6]

PEACE THROUGH FLYING BISCUITS: That peace eventually came and it really is a peace that doesn’t make sense. The stuff I was going through I should have fallen apart, but I had peace. Peace beyond my understanding when there still wasn’t money; I had peace when I kept getting rejected job after job; I had peace when more businesses failed; I had peace daily as I kept taking one more step forward. My circumstances had not changed but how I reacted and how I chose to THINK allowed that peace to enter my mind and heart.
