Doctrine #3: The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing. I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. [1 Corinthians 9:24-27]

Run with purpose in every step, I love that. The only we can do that is to stand on sound Bible doctrines. In the introduction, one of the important concepts that we talked about is how devastating it is for people who stray into bad doctrine.

Once someone gets into bad doctrine it sometimes can be really hard to get turned back around, because bad doctrine corrupts everything. Therefore, our goal is to be sure we are following sound doctrine, so we not only run the race but we win it!!  😊

Benefits of Sound Doctrine

  1. Sound doctrine gives you discernment about heaven and hell.
  2. Sound doctrine will allow you to live a holy life.
  3. Sound doctrine will keep you from falling away from the faith.
  4. Sound doctrine will prevent you from being deceived.
  5. Sound doctrine will help you from going insane in this crazy world
  6. Sound doctrine will help you to STAND FIRM.

DOCTRINE #3: THE DEITY OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [Isaiah 9:6]

This doctrine is about believing in all the perfect and holy attributes of Jesus, which make up the nature of God. As always, we can learn how to respond to things in life by looking at how Jesus responded and His attributes. These attributes are to be honored and reverenced.

JESUS NEVER SINNED

He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threatened revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. [1 Peter 2:22-23]

JESUS IS HOLY AND BLAMELESS

He is the kind of high priest we need because he is holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has been set apart from sinners and has been given the highest place of honor in heaven. [Hebrews 7:26]

JESUS IS THE PROBLEM SOLVER

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. [1 Peter 5:7-8]

 JESUS IS PART OF THE GODHEAD

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. [2 Corinthians 13:14]

JESUS ONLY DOES WHAT HIS FATHER DOES

So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. [John 5:19]

JESUS IS THE ETERNAL SON OF GOD

He also says to the Son, In the beginning, Lord, you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. They will perish, but you remain forever. They will wear out like old clothing. You will fold them up like a cloak and discard them like old clothing. But you are always the same; you will live forever. [Hebrews 1:10-12]

JESUS WAS BORN OF A VIRGIN

All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet: “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us. When Joseph woke up, he did as the angel of the Lord commanded and took Mary as his wife. But he did not have sexual relations with her until her son was born. And Joseph named him Jesus. [Matthew 1:22-24]

JESUS WAS FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT

And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. [Acts 10:38]

JESUS IS THE GREATEST GIFT

And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin,  so that we could be made right with God through Christ. [2 Corinthians 5:17-21]

JESUS DIED FOR OUR SINS, JESUS WAS BURIED, AND JESUS ROSE FROM THE DEAD

It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. [1 Corinthians 15:2-4]

JESUS ROSE IN 3 DAYS AS PROPHESIED

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the women. Don’t be afraid! he said. I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you. [Matthew 28:1-7]

JESUS IS ALIVE (AND EATING!)

Why are you frightened? he asked. Why are your hearts filled with doubt? Look at my hands. Look at my feet. You can see that it’s really me. Touch me and make sure that I am not a ghost, because ghosts don’t have bodies, as you see that I do. As he spoke, he showed them his hands and his feet. Still they stood there in disbelief, filled with joy and wonder. Then he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of broiled fish, and he ate it as they watched. [Luke 24:38-43]

JESUS ASCENDED INTO HEAVEN

After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him.  As they strained to see him rising into heaven, two white-robed men suddenly stood among them. [Acts 1:9-10]

JESUS WILL RETURN

Men of Galilee, they said, why are you standing here staring into heaven? Jesus has been taken from you into heaven, but someday he will return from heaven in the same way you saw him go! [Acts 1:11]

JESUS IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER

The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. [Hebrews 1:3]

JESUS IS IN A CLASS BY HIMSELF

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. [Philippians 2:9-11]

  • Jesus Is Part of The Godhead
  • Jesus Only Does What His Father Does
  • Jesus Is the Eternal Son of God

DOCTRINE #1: ALL SCRIPTURES ARE INSPIRED BY GOD

In the beginning, the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created and his life brought light to everyone. [John 1:1-4]

DOCTRINE #2: ONE TRUE GOD

But for us, There is one God, the Father, by whom all things were created, and for whom we live. And there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things were created, and through whom we live. [1 Corinthians 8:6]
