You Are More Than Enough!

See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! [1 John 3:1a]

QUOTE: The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I’m not going to let myself pull me down anymore (C. JoyBell).

In November 2019, I was at a conference in California to learn some public speaking skills and mostly how to write a book. What I have not mentioned is the seed for this very book, including the title and the overall concept was planted in me several years ago, well before the biscuits went flying. I was at this conference because I finally was in an emotional space where I could start to write and share my story.

Like all workshops that I have attended, there is always a “thinking” portion which is my favorite. We were told to break into groups of four mixed people, “mixed” meaning people of different nationalities. My group was composed of me, a white male, a woman of color, and a Latino woman. The purpose of the mixing was to make sure you were with total strangers and to help each other regardless of who they were and to also show it doesn’t matter who you are, we all have limiting beliefs.

The goal of this exercise was to discover one limiting belief we have, and then break that limiting belief. We were told to have one person sit in the chair and one person would be on each side and the back for support of the person working through their stuff. We were to tell the three other people whatever we were saying to ourselves that we thought might be blocking us. Then as a group with well over five hundred people, we were to stand up and say the flip side of our negative limiting belief out loud, multiple times over and over again.

When it came time to say my positive statement I couldn’t even speak.  All I could do was cry, and I mean outrageously sob. The three other people around me touched my shoulders and encouraged me to say this statement out loud. They did a fantastic job of loving on me, but I couldn’t say the statement, all I could do was cry. (There was lots of crying going on in that room). I was in shock that this was still my limiting belief and also, I couldn’t conceive of the fact that I didn’t believe the positive statement enough to say it out loud.

My self-limiting belief was “I’m Not Worthy” and my positive statement was “I Am More Than Enough.” Those words just would not come out of my mouth and I finally sat down exhausted from the emotions. Even though to others it didn’t look like or feel like I had had a breakthrough, I most certainly did. This is a perfect example of why this book is so important. I didn’t even realize I was even thinking that I was unworthy. We continued to work on our “thinking” for the rest of the day, so this entire day was very emotional. Typically, before I go to bed, I like to review my takeaways from that day so I can prepare questions and set my intentions for the next day. All I could do was get back to my Airbnb and crawl in bed and fall directly asleep.

The next morning however, I was up before sunrise and caught another Lyft ride to the beach where no one else was there but my barefoot self, the cute little sandpipers, the sound of the crashing waves, and God Almighty. I was there ready for my Holy Appointment. Yelling and screaming at the top of my lungs, “I AM MORE THAN ENOUGH”, I’m more than enough….I am  more than enough, I’m more than enough. I thought: “Devil, you have wreaked havoc in my life long enough, and get this straight. I am more than enough, I am writing this book because I’m more than enough. I’ve rebuilt my life because I am more than enough, I’m going to help other women because I am more than enough. I’m going to speak life into others through this message because I am more than enough. I AM WHO GOD SAYS I AM.

After an hour of speaking life and God’s Word, my throat was sore. The sun started to rise; it was a new day, and I was a new woman!!! The little sandpipers escaped those waves, but the enemy and his cronies were drowned that morning, and I finally believed and could say, “I AM MORE THAN ENOUGH.” [2 Corinthians 3:5]

YOU ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH: To be honest, on the final day of the conference, I don’t remember much except the circle we made at the end. The circle was all nationalities, races, colors, and genders holding hands. This circle was to recognize that no matter who we are, looking around that room, everyone, every single person, has great potential to change the world. Collectively we each had major breakthroughs that changed each of us to the point that we could never look back and NOT do what we were called to do.

That next day during my final beach moments and my flight home, I created the outline for this book, set my deadlines, and started writing this book with a purposeful vengeance!

DAY #2:  Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. [Ephesians 1:4]

DAY #3: Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for yours because you are precious to me. You are honored, and I love you. [Isaiah 43:4]

DAY #5: And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows [Luke 12:7]

DAY #6: You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. [Psalm 139:15-16]

DAY #7: And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
